If you aren’t aware already, this is something you’ll want to check out!
ABWA has apps for accessing WIN from your smartphone.
For those who aren’t aware — WIN is the Women’s Information Network — the in-house connection software that ABWA members have full access to. WIN contains message boards, a library of documents vital to running a chapter, but also an absolute WEALTH of training modules tailored for helping individual members advance their leadership and management skills and further their careers.
The apps aren’t necessary to access WIN, and members can set their accounts so to receive email notifications when there is a new or response message in one of your teams.
Email notifications are convenient for some, but others can find them cumbersome. With only five or ten minutes to scan email, and finding your inbox stuffed with notifications you must sort through before finding what really needs your attention can get frustrating.
Enter the WIN smartphone apps!
I downloaded the app (I have an iPhone) to give it a try.
When I get any message, I receive a push (sound) notification. If I don’t have time to check (which is most of the day), that’s okay, because the icon for the app on my phone keeps a little tally for me of the number of waiting notifications. When I do have a few spare minutes, I can pop in and check out what has been posted. I can reply to message via my phone (I tend to use the speech-to-text feature on the iPhone, since I don’t have a slide out keyboard.
The app doesn’t appear to give complete access to all the features of WIN. For example, on my phone, while I can view all the components of the various training modules, my phone cannot load them. This may be a feature of the app that is limited to users of android tablets or iPads. I had no problem at all loading movie or pdf files.
