She is a problem-solver, negotiator and facilitator.
Kristie has worked as a Communications Specialist, Realtor, and administrative assistant, and hosted her own television show in the 90’s, The Kristie Curtis Show, on Birmingham Public access channel where she interviewed local talent and covered public concern issues. Kristie enjoys learning new skills or fine tuning the skills that she already possesses.
Anita Carbone, Consultant, Entrepreneur & Mentor
The Heart of Birmingham Chapter is pleased to announce that Anita Carbone will be serving as our mentor as we endeavor to earn the designation “Striving for Best Practices.” Anita is an ABWA to Ten Business Women, a member of a Level I Best Practices Chapter in Melbourne, Florida.
A financial and real estate consultant currently licensed as a broker in both California and Florida, Anita graduated from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida with a BS degree in Accounting, and earned her MBA with an accounting specialty from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She served as Controller for a high tech Silicon Valley based electronics firm in a dynamic and high growth environment, and also managed the initial public offering process for a video security technology company.
As a business executive with more than twenty years of experience, Anita has broad expertise in financial accounting and controls; taxes; investments; and SEC reporting and compliance. After several years of employment in Silicon Valley high tech, Anita studied to become a Certified Financial Planner and embarked on dual new career paths by starting her own consulting business and pursuing her passion for teaching. As an adjunct faculty member at Ohlone College, Fremont, CA for seventeen years and at Foothill College, Los Altos, CA for five years, Anita taught accounting and finance, developed online course content in the subject area of business math, and designed and conducted seminars and workshops for the Community Education Program.
We welcome her guidance as we begin our Best Practices Center Point Festival of the Springs
Center Point “Festival of the Springs” will take place on April 2, from 11 AM to 5 PN, in recognition of the Bicentennial of the founding of Center Point. Heart of Birmingham chapter is busting our buttons with pride as our chapter vice-president, Nancy Reed, will be serving as the Grand Marshall in the parade that day! Nancy’s husband’s family were founders of Center Point. As such, Reed family members will be honored and will be riding in the lead car this year. Nancy is also a member of the Center Point Women’s Preservation Society
The Parade will begin at 10:00 am and travel Polly Reed Road. The Festival itself will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PN, and will feature a variety of homemade foods, arts & crafts, kids’ activities and musical entertainment. Historical information about the city will be displayed inside the Senior Center.

Did you know…?
The Mission of the American Business Women’s Association is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition. Heart of Birmingham Chapter is proud to join with our national organization in this noble cause, through continuing educational speakers at our monthly events, sending members to local, regional and national conferences, and raising funds for scholarships.
Why, yes, we did! Heart of Birmingham is bringing back the Boston Butts!
If you’ve purchased one (or more) of these amazing cuts of meat, you know how tender and absolutely delicious they are. Heart of Birmingham has decided to offer these fabulous cuts of meat once again late this spring — no need to wait until next winter if you were wanting to get another! These smoked Boston Butts are delivered the day they are smoked, juicy and delicious. They are perfect for a family gathering as well — some folks purchase an extra or two to freeze, to have on hand. Boston Butts will be delivered June 21, but it’s not too early to place your order! Contact your favorite Heart of Birmingham chapter member or let us know by clicking here.
